Les Méridionaux à Versailles

Journée d'études, 10 juin 2006, château de Versailles
‘Southerners at Versailles’. One-day workshop, 10 June 2006, château de Versailles

Held in the context of a three-year research programme (2005–8) organized by the Centre de Recherche du Château de Versailles, this one-day workshop examines the relationship between the court and the southern French provinces in the widest sense (from Bordeaux to Nice). It will look at how a person might be admitted to the court – through networks, as a page or attendant to the king, to the military academy of Saint-Cyr, into a corps of guards, and so on – and how this was perceived in the south of the kingdom. Workshop presentations are based on iconographical documents and the archives of public and private collections, which have produced unknown accounts of the memories of the Méridionaux, or ‘Southerners’.
